Video: the R6 delivers optimal performance in 4K 30p and 60p. On the R7, the best quality is found up to 30p. On the R7, the best quality is found up to 30p. They both record 10-bit 4:2:2 internally with Log or HDR, and the APS-C camera holds its ground surprisingly well concerning dynamic range.
The kit zoom delivers respectable image quality. Canon EOS R6, RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM at 68mm, 1/160sec at f/8, ISO 100. The elephant in the room, though, is video. The problem isn’t the quality of the EOS R6’s output, which is just fine, but the camera’s practical usability as a stills/video hybrid.
Canon says that the R6 is rated at -6.5 to +20 EV for AF detection range, which is pretty incredible (in comparison, the AF detection range on the Nikon Z6 II is -4.5 to +19 EV). Canon EOS R6 + RF85mm F1.2 L USM @ 85mm, ISO 100, 1/1000, f/1.2. The Canon EOS R6 really shines when tracking moving subjects.
2 Our pick: Sony FX30. 3 Sony FX3. 4 Canon EOS R5C. 5 Canon EOS R6 Mark II. 6 Fujifilm X-H2S. 7 Panasonic Lumix DC-GH6. 8 Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 II. 9 Panasonic Lumix DC-S1H. 10 Sony a7S III.
Seriously. Think of it this way; a Canon Rebel, is easily capable of shooting beautiful sharp photos with “L” lenses, while an R3 will have quite a difficult time shooting equivalent photos through low end glass. If you can get yourself to buy used, mpb has an R6, like new, around $1800 and a used ef 24-70mm 2.8L for around $1200.
In looking at the User Manual, I don't believe that when having the EOS R6 record in log, there's any way to apply a LUT (color Look Up Table) in camera. Thus, you'll need to apply a LUT in post-production. See page 305. If you're looking for the ability to record footage that won't need such post processing, you'll want to turn off Canon Log.--
